I imagine this is a much discussed topic here ??? But I thought I would ask
for myself. I have a project coming up for a tv cabinet with a lift for the foot of a bed.... I don't know the size of the tv yet but it won't be giant. It will most likely be a flat screen. I would like to find something that's fairly easy to work with. I see there's one in Rocklers that looks very straight forward, but I imagine getting an item like this through Rockler could be more expensive than shopping elsewhere. I do run a business so I can purchase this item direct... So any advise on what and where....? Thanks Joel |

Well, since the one at Rockler looks free, I have a hard time believing
you can beat the price: http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product...ngs_id=11 111 Seriously though: http://www.auton.com/ http://www.inca-tvlifts.com/ http://www.electrokinetics.com/tv.htm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...22&btnG=Search Of course, if you're running a business, why not just get the Rockler version and pass the cost directly to the customer? -Mike dwolf wrote: I imagine this is a much discussed topic here ??? Yeah, I was just lusting after that thing while perusing the latest catalog
while lounging in the bathroom...ahh...I mean the reading room. It's a chunk of change, however, coming in at around $1300. OUCH! Now, if you can get it for the price on the website (zip, zero, nadda, zilch, etc) go for it. Of course, lusting after it does me no good as I'm about as close to owning a big ole flat screen TV as I am to walking on Mars. -- Jeff P. Yeah, I hear you. I'd almost rather have the lift than the TV. Seems
like a fun toy. I've thought a lot about building my own lift too (again, not that I have a TV for it). You know just for planning purposes. My thought was to use four pieces of allthread at the corners of the cabinet. The platform would ride on the althread. The althread would run from a set of bicycle chains and gears hooked up to a motor. Finding the right motor might be a challenge... of course, my old 1-1/2hp 3450 rpm table saw motor would raise a TV 30 inches in around 10 seconds (1:1 drive ratio on 1/4-20 allthread). It's actually really quiet too. I guess cable routing becomes a bit of an issue, but a nice long s-video or component cable shouldn't be too much trouble to manage with a spring or bungee cord system. Maybe if you insulated the drive shaft, you could use three of the allthreads for power (one for ground, of course ![]() But I digress. I'm not going to be buying one of those tvs until the price gets well under $300. At that point, the $1300 Rockler model seems obscene, so I probably would be able to talk SWMBO into letting me make it. Hmmm... I would keep an eye out for a surplussed drafting table. No matter what =
shape it was in as long as the center column lift still worked. Could be = done pretty cheap that way. --=20 SwampBug - - - - - - - - - - - - "Mike Reed" wrote in message = ups.com...
