How totally asinine and illogical, to even attempt to equate the contact

How about better helmet designs, for starters?

"Experts" say that, but "experts" said the same about lobotomies being
good for man.

You will note that most of the headlines stipulate that "brand" of
helmets will not prevent concussions, "or "likely" never will" ... IOW,
the 'click through for revenue' reports are arguably mostly conjecture.

Obviously, all you testosterone junkies feel that contact sports are a
necessary and needed part of growing up. While I can agree up to a
point, you're dismissing the fact that concussions can and do
regularly happen and can be a very debilitating injury.

LOL ... this actually happened to a guy who worked for me in the O&G
business. Jim in with a cut on his temple one morning and we found out,
through his brother, a co-worker who shared an apartment with him, that
Jim hit his head on the night stand while banging his girl friend, also

Of course when we found out what happened, we made sure both of them

You're not getting off that easy buddy. Make all the jokes you want,
but anyway you slice it, there's a problem somewhere with any sports
where concussions can and should be expected.

Please, I haven't advocated changing, canceling or doing anything to
those sports, just pointed out a notable problem.

Never played tackle, played touch football bare footed "in the street".
Sometimes a touch is all it took to crash and burn on the gravel on

There is one school of thought that blames the (too good) helmets and
pads for the rise in injuries. They allow one to use one's body as a
weapon without risk to the aggressor. There are a lot of injuries in
rugby but few life-threatening ones.

Leon is totally right unless this wussification is stopped.

Regardless of how "wussified" you think Americans are becoming, the rest
of the industrialized world generally reports as being happier in
general, and they live longer and in better health than we do.

And that is because the Americans have been first in line in defending
the world. What will the rest of the world do when the Americans don't
have the balls any more to look out for the under dog?

Defending the world against what? Aliens? Typhoons?

No, I just don't buy into the "American Exceptionalism" that you seem
to believe makes America superior to the rest of the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_exceptionalism

There's no doubt that the US had a key role in winning WWI and WWII.

Since then, the US record has been spotty, to say the least. Particularly
in the 21st century.

But, you are an avowed republican, so you'll ignore everything counter
to the 21st century republican ethos as some "liberal nonsense".

Talk about head in the sand.
