Default New project - not much wood, but some

What should I use to fasten the tiles to the ply?

Any reason not to use tile mastic? It's glue
designed to replace mortar. Cheap, easy,
& designed for the purpose.

No reason. In my case you can usually assume that the displayed
ignorance is not feigned.
