I need to refresh my wet-dry sandpaper supply for my Scarey-Sharp
sharpening system... To do this I like to buy 3-5 sheets each of about 12 different grits of sandpaper from 150 grit up to 3000. Buying individual small packs is usually quite cost-prohibitive. Any advice on sources that would sell a mixed pack of total say 36-100 sheets at an affordable price? Thanks |

Any advice on sources that would sell a mixed pack of total say 36-100 sheets at an affordable price? Thanks I bought packages of five 9"x11" sheets of wet/dry silicon carbide paper, ranging from 60 to 2000 for around $40 from http://www.woodworkingshop.com/ That seems to be as fine as they sell there. The prices I found at the auto-parts stores was similar, but the sheets were only 1/3 the size! For me, looking at the price of the other sharpening alternatives helps make the $40 seem affordable. On the other hand, after seeing what I'm investing in "Scarey-Sharp" it makes some of the other alternatives seem more plausable too...(someday..). Hope this is helpful. Good luck! Bill |

Want to tell us the physical size ?
Many companies sell quality sand paper. Martin blueman wrote: I need to refresh my wet-dry sandpaper supply for my Scarey-Sharp sharpening system... As I look into this more, I realize that I have some more questions: 1. Is wet/dry silicon carbide the best abrasive material for scarey-sharp sharpening and for fine polishing of finishes? 2. Is there a big difference in quality among brands? Or can I just buy on price? Are there any brands that are to be recommended or to be avoided? Finally, there is a seller on ebay who will sell 50 sheets (in any combo of grits up to 2500) for $32 including shipping. Assuming the quality and reliability are good, this would be significantly cheaper than the above link where 5 sheets go for an average about $4 before shipping. He will also supply 3000 grit for a slightly higher price... The seller is "Top-rated" if that means anything... |

As I look into this more, I realize that I have some more questions: 1. Is wet/dry silicon carbide the best abrasive material for scarey-sharp sharpening and for fine polishing of finishes? My guess, having used wet/dry a lot on metal projects, including polishing, would be "yes". 2. Is there a big difference in quality among brands? Or can I just buy on price? Are there any brands that are to be recommended or to be avoided? I think even the current Chinese silicon carbide papers are good. (A lot of their other sandpapers are ****.) Got some at Harbor Freight that worked well. Of course, they don't have the really fine grits, but it's a lot cheaper. Seems like silicon carbide is silicon carbide: the main difference seems to be the backing and the bonding, which is OK even in the Chinese stuff. -- You were wrong, and I'm man enough to admit it. - a Usenet "apology" |

I've use this place over the years, their silicon carbide paper is quite good with a paper that wont easily dry out and crack. They also seem to offer 5-10% off every so often. I believe the SC paper is of European origin. -BR http://www.onlineindustrialsupply.com/?google-sandpaper |

The seller I was looking says the paper is by Rhyno-Wet by Indasa abrasives which is apparently a European company. Any experience with them? |
