I have a feeling Google has finally driven me out of rec.woodworking.
I don't know what they THINK they did, but as of yesterday, every time I open a thread, I get told I need to sign in to post a response. I'ma lready signed in. They've also changed the typeface, shrunk it,and overlaid a dropdown menu telling me this is rec.woodworking plus all the other info about the group, right over the upper left corner of the screen. It's like my first wife: it won't go away. |

Your ISP may even have one as part of its full-service offering. |

Well, if ya gotta go, ya gotta go.
To me, it is like throwing out the baby with the bath water, but I understand. FREE isn't what it once was as far as service, reliability and ease of use. I use GG as well, and from time to time they make some changes that change the appearance and the user features as well. The changes can be irritating, but I still find the price to features ratio worth the irritation. Robert |

I also pay $3 a month for APN, a great news server... Compared to what I've paid for small hand tools, this investment is nothing... YMWV mac Please remove splinters before emailing |

Robert It would be fine if I cold read all the posts, but somehow, they've managed to run the whole deal to the far left of my screen, losing at least one letter in each sentence. It's sad when a 24" monitor ain't wide enough. Especially when it's a single program and all else works just fine. I don't hit the wreck that often these days, so if I fold the hand, it won't deprive me of much, nor, in fact, will it deprive the wreck of much. |

The NG is the only one that has problems. No other programs have problems. I'm tired of screwing with it, as this is about the fifth time in a year. I can't wait to see Google's OS...on someone else's machine. |

Personally, I liked getting binaries free from comcast (giganews) and enjoyed them. Not sure I want to pay for them now, even $3/month, primarily because I suspect few people post in binary groups now because they have to actually pay to participate. ABPW was not that active when it was all free, so I can't imagine it would get busier. I used to like Alt binaries picture original a lot, which had/has a lot of great photographers and really nice people, and I suspect it is still really active because those folks were pretty serious. It was so active when everything was free, I couldn't keep up with it, so it may even be better now. Still, I haven't decided to go through the aggravation of a pay service. I think, without reading it, the implication is he would prefer you use usenet for legal purpose and not be hiding behind a fake address. I don't think he has a problem if you add junk to your address in some wacky attempt to prevent spam. I think he would have a problem if I posted under say, your name with your email address, or were spewing out spam across usenet using his servers. Nothing normal folks should be concerned with. If I had your experience, I would not be recommending E-S. The only difference I've seen is E-S does not have binaries. When Motzarella switched over to Eternal-September I got an email several weeks before it was to happen, with instructions on exactly how to make the switchover. About the only way it could be better is if your pay service provided a tech at your side when an issue arouse, and my experience with techs has always been dismal compared to support you get from developers and users in a group. You get multiple views and multiple experiences, with no bias from people trying to sell you stuff.
