Looking to purchase my first jointer and have narrowed it down to the
6" Grizzly parallelogram jointer. Any experience with adjustments,
blade changes etc are appreciated.

I am a bit confused.

If you have already narrowed your potential purchase to one specific model,
why are you asking for information about features?

Well, as I am sure you know, Grizzly is not widely available to
actually put your hands on. When I was looking for a new table saw I
posted a very similar question here and got lots of great responses
that assisted me in my choice.

Do you have experience with this jointer? If not what kind of jointer
do you have and why did you select it?

Well, as I am sure you know, Grizzly is not widely available to
actually put your hands on. When I was looking for a new table saw I
posted a very similar question here and got lots of great responses

Have you contacted Grizzly to see if there are any in your area that the
owners would be willing to let you test the machine?

I have two. Delta DJ-20 and 12" that is part of my MiniMax combo machine.
If I was going to purchase a new jointer I would look for long beds and a
head that makes changing knives very easy. I do a fair amount of work with
long stock so long beds are nice. After having the Tersa cutterhead on the
MiniMax I hate changing blades on the Delta.

I have a Grizzly jointer but not the one you are looking at. Instead of
6", I put my $$ towards an 8". It's their basic jointer (no helical
cutters, parallelogram, etc...) and works just fine.
Unless you have a particular reason for only considering 6", you may want to
think about putting that extra cash going towards the parallelogram 6" and
buying a more basic 8". But on the whole,
I've been pretty pleased with Grizzly's stuff. I have a cabinet saw,
bandsaw, and jointer from them with no issues.

An 8" would be awesome. My problem is space (I am probably not alone
on this one). My big projects are handled in the garage, then I
usually move to the basement for planar, router, and hand work, unless
the weather is OK (I am in Michigan). I picked up a Grizzly cabinet
saw this year and love it, so I am sure the jointer will be OK as
well. I have checked out the 6" Jet, and DeltaX. I will take anothe
look at the 8" Grizzly.

This is good advice. When I was looking at the Griz 1023S cabinet saws I
had the opportunity to view them in Springfield. Being cautious I also
exercised the option to contact Grizzly and get the names of two customers
in our area who had recently bought them. That sealed my decision to buy.

Also, can't speak to the 6" machine but our son-in-law has had one of the 8"
long bed jointers for about four years (not the spiral head). It is a great
machine.

Understand the space issue. I started with a 6" jointer and then
eventually upgraded to the 8". I unfortunately kind of operate under the
philosophy of buy it and then figure out where to put it! I'm sharing a
two car garage with my wife's vehicle. I've got the jointer, a cabinet
saw, a contractor's saw, the bandsaw, a drill press, a planer, a radial arm
saw, SCMS, and a whole bunch of other stuff in there. It's a pain as I
have to pull everything out to use it but it's what I've got and it works.

Matt, unless you are working in a "real" tight space, the difference in
footprint of the two (6 vs 8) is not that great. I have a 6" (non-spiral
head) and it has been rock solid. I have not had to change out the knives
yet, but the adjustments are simple and stay where you put them.
