But now that she's incorporated a 10-foot-tall pole into her outdoor act, and started drawing an audience of curious high school kids and beer-drinking gawkers, the fountain of tolerance has run dry. Neighbors of Kim Mattes brought the issue before Tippecanoe County officials Monday, and commissioner John Knochel said it will be discussed during an April 17 meeting. "I would assume they're coming up with some kind of plan of attack," Knochel said about the neighbors. "Conversations I've had with law enforcement people indicate that she's just right on the fine line of crossing over into probably what's deemed public indecency." Adding to the intrigue, Mattes' white duplex is located, pole and all, across from an Indiana State Police post. "She knows the law," Knochel explained. The activities have gone on for two years, but the last straw was when the pole was installed a few weeks ago, said Mitch Robbins. He said he was one of approximately 30 people who spoke to police. Mattes has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for comment by The Associated Press. When contacted by the Journal and Courier of Lafayette, Mattes had no comment. Tippecanoe County Sheriff Dave Murtaugh confirmed that police have received complaints. "We are in the middle of conducting an investigation that we're working on with the prosecutor's office," he said. Robbins said he called the police and Knochel, but was told Mattes was within her legal rights, stepping gingerly along the line of Indiana public indecency laws. The show attracts high school kids and obnoxious men who leave beer cans strewn in the driveway, said Mattes' next-door neighbors Jason Lowry and Tim Hopkins. "I don't know how many guys we've had to run off the yard," Hopkins said. Lowry said he asked her to stop when his parents came over. He said she complied with the request. Sherri Desenfants said parents have to drive past the exhibition to take children to a nearby day care center, which has eight to 10 children. "Preteen girls see her," Desenfants said. "What kind of example is she setting for them?" Knochel said he's received several e-mails and calls from concerned neighbors. "A lot of people are working on this," he said, "but you have to work within the law." |

I for one would like to thank Ig for posting an ON TOPIC post.
Considering that the pole is a metal one, the posting is definitely on topic for the metal working discussion group. Way to go Ig!!!!! ;) Do you think it is American made or a cheap Harbor Freight import? Perhaps she had a local HSMer build it for her? Thanks again Ig for contributing to this fine group. You know...the more I think about this poor girl, the more upset I get
about her situation. It's not like she is sitting on her fence naked and playing the Kazoo..... :) TMT Too_Many_Tools wrote: I for one would like to thank Ig for posting an ON TOPIC post. "What kind of example is she setting for them?" Probably a good one. Lots of exercise, getting outdoors and doing something active, staying in shape, self confidence, grace and physical agility. Beats the **** out of starving themselves into Dachau stick figures and spending their time on the phone, or parked in front of a tv set letting their brains turn into mush. In my younger, more agile days..I had a lady friend who was a dancer. I helped her with her routines on occasion..and ****me but its damned hard work. She would come off the pole with a fine sheen of sweat..Id be on the floor gasping my lungs out, aching in every joint after trying her routines.
