Default those "one size fits all" screws

Got some door pull hardware, and they came with those screws that have
marks on them for cutting to different lengths.

How does one trim them to the desired length?

Thanks

Thread a couple nuts down the screw and hold them with vice grips
while you grab the trash end and break it off.
That will also dress up the threads when you spin off the nuts, if you
ding them.
