"mac davis" showed us some pictures of some old, ugly stumps...

Hate to tell you this Mac, but those old, dirty stumps look rilly, rilly
ugly.

Think you can do something to improve their appearance?? G

Weird enough for all practical purposes.

I'm gonna try, Lee...
Probably about 400 pounds of wood, but lot of worm holes and cracks, like all
the ironwood around here..
OTOH, the price was right and it will last through the summer and give me a nice
inventory when the snow birds are back..

Right....

Except that IF there was a local place to buy this stuff, I'd be looking at at
least $300 for this load.. lol
Maybe $500 if you figure in the big burl stump?

Me too, Kate..

So's my wife (who loaded most of it) but mostly she'll be glad when it's all
done, since the shop is IN the house and ironwood is really messy..

Mac, you just explained it to her wrong. The shop isn't in the house. You
two live in the shop. It's all a matter of proper perspective...

Well, the shop being in the house was her idea...
She only seems to mind when ironwood is involved, though..

Besides the dust, she hates the smell of it being sawed or sanded..
(It is sort of a foul smell)

Thanks...
Really different looking than the stuff he gave me before.. I'll have to cut a
few chunks off and see if it's the same dark brown inside..

Might even be enough wood there to make back what the Nova cost...

And think of all the fun time you will have playing with it. Life is
grand, ain't it.

Yeah, we turners being pretty masochistic, and all.. lol

Spent a couple of hours with the chain saw and splitting maul and separated a
sort of bowl blank today.. It was only 97 in and I wanted to take advantage of
the cool morning..

Spent another 3 or 4 hours chasing the Nova around the shop with this big
honkin' piece of wood on it.. Major off balance thing, but I wanted to highlight
a broken branch stub..
I'd estimate the weight when I put it on the lathe to be about 25 or 30 pounds
Another few hours and it MIGHT start having a bowl shape..

BTW, that spalted dogwood bowl is on our kitchen island.. What a pretty piece of
wood!

I just love the smell of cocobolo mmmmmm and that pretty yellow sawdust.
I think it's my favorite wood.
