OT (slightly) colored acrylic glue
I am attempting to do some laminated acrylic plastic turnings, but
have been unable to find the glue I am looking for. Way back in the 60's I can remember making a ring out of layered clear acrylic plastic and colored glue. The glue was slow enough setting to allow proper lamination, and you could still see through it (translucent, not opaque). Much more recently (this year) I have seen plastic sculpture made the same way. After many hours' search here, elsewhere on the web including many chem and plastic manufacturers, and on the phone with local craft and plastic companies, no luck finding this glue. Attempts to color clear glue with alcohol based dye or pigment powders have been unsuccessful (uneven color). I would like to find a source for a few ounces each of blue, red, yellow, black and possibly white. Is this stuff still made somewhere? Can anyone please help??? |

Gary You could try using acrylic casting resin as the glue. This is available from craft stores such as Michael's and they also sell dyes for tinting the resin. This stuff is often used to make paperweights with embedded items. Hope this helps. Martin |

Martin Gary, I checked last night the dyes I have for coloring acrylic resin ( haven't used them yet) and there is a web site listed. It is www.eti-usa.com Hope this helps more. Martin |

Martin Thanks, Martin, I'll give it a shot. I have some casting resin hanging around, I'll see if it actually melts into cast acrylic sheet, as it's normal glues do. I'll report back on this thread as to the results, for those who follow. |

The glues are solvent based, causing the melting. Martin |
