Default Honest opinion of Jet 1642 EVS

Planning to upgrade my lathe in the near future and looking for honest opinions on the Jet 1642 EVS.

Is this a good lathe or should I opt for another machine? Need to keep it under 2K.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Default Honest opinion of Jet 1642 EVS

I got hooked on woodturning a few months ago when I purchased an antique Boice-Crane (abt 1930) benchtop lathe from Ebay. After a bit of research I purchased the 1642 Jet and couldn't be happier. I'm not an experienced woodturner, but I've been around tools all my life. The fit and finish was very good, head and tail stocks lined up perfectly, at about 400 pounds+ it seems very stable. I love the variable speed and reversing capability. The packing crate was damaged, but the contents were in perfect condition. I assembled everything by myself.

I hope you get a few more opinions from the group.
