Default An earth shaking off center invention or just an off centerinventor?

Found a junked 28" piece of 2" X 3/8" steel flat with 1/4" holes 3/4"
apart all along it. Thought to cut it in half and weld a 1 1/4" X 8tpi
spindle nut to the center of one half and drill a 60 deg. tail center
hole in the other.
I figure I can fix two balanced blanks between each half the same no. of
holes off center and by turning then rotating 180deg. make 'big fat or
flat ovals', plus get two for the price of one. IOW, the centers are
more offset than the blanks would normally allow. What do I do with two
big flat ovals, anyway?

I vaguely remember something like this, but before I fracture my nose
and/or put another hole in the ceiling thought I'd better ask rcw if
this makes any sense. Been done before? Won't work? Too risky? Why
bother? Well, my Harbor Freight auto tail pipe expander does fine as an
expansion 'pin' chuck, but somehow I don't seem to use it.

I know, I know. "Give it up Arch!, just go turn some bowls like normal
turners do".
