Default Unknown cables

All

We have 4 small white boxes on the lounge skirting board with a few
cables in some of them. Doesn't look like the phone or mains cable.

Can't seem to find what they are for anywhere on the web. My
father-in-law who is a DIY enthusiast had no idea either.

In case it helps the house is about 8 years old.

Any ideas anyone?

What are the cables like ?

Which wall ? Near the front of the house ? On a South facing wall ?

Any sign of an old satellite dish outside ?

As a guess, it might be cable TV. If they're co-ax cables, then this
would be very likely.

I had similar - never found out what it was but the house was an old Housing
association house and may have had some warden call or care call system to a
central post locally - mine had 6 or 8 cores and "funny" connectors at the
socket outlet - flat blade connectors like some sort of pre-historic network

What does the cable look like? Alarm cable is pretty similar to phone
cable at a glance. Perhaps you could describe it - diameter etc and say
what the colours on the conductors insulation are? Although WTF anyone
would put junction boxes on the skirting for *anything* escapes me...
And where the cables seem to go to?

Unlikely to be anything to do with phones, then.

I'll try and get some photos sorted, should make life a bit easier for
everyone.

I must admit my guess was heading towards audio. Curiously the previous
occupants of the house didn't mention anything to us about them at all.
