Default Recommend A Good Condensing System Boiler?

Hi,

My 28 year old floor standing Ideal boiler is in need of replacement. It's still working OK and heating up the water. So I can't really expect any more from it. It's just very inefficient, noisey and seems to give the room it's located in blackened smokey walls in time. It basically needs a rest before it does go tits up.

I'm going to be getting a new condensing system boiler of some sort. Can you recommend any? How about Worcester Bosch or Vaillant? I've been given quite a good price on the Worcester.

Any ideas? Please help.

It sounds rather like combustion products are escaping into the room. If
this is the case, it would not be the boiler going tits up that would be
my primary worry!

Either of those seem to be well regarded by folks on this group, the WB
in particular. Its a pretty common question on this group, so have a
google back at past answers....

Yes, I can imagine the question being a bit of an evergreen on here, but I
do have a couple of specific questions.

Thanks for your reply anyway.

W-B, Vaillant and Glow Worm are all good and the W-B and Glow Worm are well
priced.

I hadn't clocked how very much cheaper the more mnodest (but very
adequate) unit are. The combi series Ecomax 8xx is still very expensive
being over £1000 at trade prices.

Have these prices just been revised? (in anticipation of April no doubt?)

I first noticed them a few weeks back, don't know how long they've been
that way since I hadn't seen that site before. Can't imagine anyone will
bring prices down in advance of April, though I'd hope eventually
they'll settle down to something like current non-condensing prices when
there's nothing much else around and the big builders are buying them by
the truckload. After all combis don't cost much more than heating-only &
system prices even though they've got lots more inside, presumably due
to volume of sales to the house-builders, so the same _should_ happen
with condis too, shouldn't it? Discuss ..... :-)

The 8xx series are the combis.
If the difference between the 6xx series and 8xx series is the same for
the Ecomax range as the Turbomax/Thermocompact range then the 6xx
stuff will be identical except for a selection of 'missing' parts.
Diverter valve, flow detector, 2ndy heat exchanger (aka sardine can), cold
in and hot out pipes. There are even the wires for the combi bits in place
in the 6xx series units.

My guess is that condensors don't cost very much more to make than
conventional (+£100?) so the pricing is all about market share, volume
margins etc. etc.

There must be a hell of a lot of 'marketing' with the prices just
like the pricing structure for instantaneous electric showers - same
model marginally (a few %) thicker but shorter element = +£10 on price.
