Default CH boiler kettling (and changing the laws of physics)

Now here's the thing:

When my CH boiler (a Potterton Suprima) fires up for a long period
(such as first thing in the morning), after a few minutes it starts
making 'wheezing' sounds. Occasionally, this turns to rattling in the
pipes which can reverberate through the house (especially through to
the header tank which is in the loft directly above my bed). The
pipes rattle for a couple of minutes until I hear an almost orgasmic
spurt into the header tank.

From all the descriptions I've read, this sounds like 'kettling'.
Conventional wisdom seems to be to raise the pump speed to get the
water away from the heat exchanger quicker. However, this rattling
was only occurring when the pump was on its highest setting, and when
I lower the speed of the pump, it doesn't occur. The wheezing sound
is still there, though.

Could I have a problem other than kettling? Could it be related to
the pump?

First ensure that you do not have a Primatic (tm) type cylinder fitted
to your system. If its a true double feed indirect cylinder, and it
probably is,then away to your nearest shed/plumbing centre and
purchase some Grace Dearbourne X200. It'll cost about £13 . Get it
into your system by the easiest route and let it circulated, hopefully
the noise will ease. Dont just dump it in the header tank though, put
it in a radiator if poss.

Strike that, it's still kettling at the lower speed.

The boiler stat could have died and it is boiling over. Get this checked.

Kettles boiler over. Boilers kettle. AIUI kettling is localised boiling.
Anything more than localised boiling should result in plumes of steam
heading for the easiest exit.

That of course should have read kettles boil over. I really must pay
more attention to the way my fingers translate my thoughts into words or
I will end up being as incomprehensible as dIMM. :-)
