Default washing machine bearings

Decided to change a washing machine bearing over the weekend ( as you
do) and was wondering whether it is normal practise to grease the seal
where it meets the drum shaft or whether it is fitted dry?

Dry, because grease comes off in the wash and marks the clothes. You can
also rub some butter or vegetable oil on the face just to prime it though.
