Default Refinishing an oak "parquetry" floor

It looks like the next major job will be to refinish an oak parquetry
floor. It's flat but may never have been refinished since it was put
down in the 1930s, so the surface is poor. I don't know how thick the
panels are so, currently, my plan is to use a 6" random orbital (with
dust extraction!) rather than hiring something bigger. I'll probably
start with 60 grit abranet, work-up to 220 or so and then use an oil
finish. Has anyone here tackled this before and able to offer any advice?

Assuming it's not been sanded many times before there should be plenty
meat. And to get it flat you want as large a sander as possible, which
would mean hiring one. I'm sure you'll find plenty on U tube showing you
how to do it.
