Can anyone identify and if possible, date the delivery vans in this
image, taken from a rather grainy picture?

London, either pre- or just post-war. My best shot is a pre-war 1935
Austin 7 Ruby, but images of the Ruby on the Internet look as though
it's longer at the back, and it has ventilation grills along the side
of the bonnet. But I suppose those details could vary slightly with
the exact model.

Did you ever *hear* a Trojan van? They made a strange burbling noise due
to an unusual engine - was it something like 3 cylinder 2 stroke?

Horizontally opposed 2 cylinder 4 stroke. Like a 2CV Citroen.

And drive to one rear wheel.

My current car is a three-banger but you wouldn't guess. (Skoda Scala).

The sound it made was "Brook-buc-buc-buc-buc-buc-Bond".

Nah. You're thinking of one of those three wheelers!

Really? Didn't know that. Thought it had a conventional transmission.

My current car is a three-banger but you wouldn't guess. (Skoda Scala).

I used to like the noise those DKWs made - a three cylinder two stroke.
And early SAAB.

Same as a Bradford, by Jowett. Once it was going, you could slow down
in top gear (third) until you could count the engine cycles. Engine
size was 1005 cc, 2 cylinder.

I remember it well, but not with fondness. But it always prompted happy
memories from 'older' folks at filling stations.
