Long ago, ISTR, I used a melange of brass filings in Araldite; it worked well, both in strength and conductance.

It would be easy enough, if you have some brass and a file, to test that idea using some ordinary glue, such as UHU.

Alternatively, if there is room, you could try a readily-available AA or AAA battery holder, and pad the length with a bit of brass rod - or maybe even with a pencil-stub bluntly sharpened at both ends - or a stick with a bit of bare wire wrapped round it longitudinally. If you lack suitable trees nearby, the cheapest stick may be a piece of macaroni (uncooked).

Or a mini-clothespeg with wire wrapped round each jaw, and glued in place on the outside. Or a bit of spine-bar, as sold by stationers for converting a small stack of A4 pages into a book, using clenched drawing-pins or sawn-off tin-tacks as contacts.


Now you're talking real DIY :-)
