No. You're confusing perversion with compulsion. Many perverts never
offend; probably wouldn't do so for moral as well as legal reasons.

If many perverts never offend, then how do you are anyone else know
that they're perverts, in the first place ?

That simply doesn't make sense.

And please don't say that they wrote about this in letters or diaries.

Because that makes them "fantasists" not "perverts". Fantasists are
people who write or talk about things without any intention of ever
actually doing them. For whatever reason.*

Agatha Christie wrote around 80 books about murder, which millions
of her readers lapped up. But that doesn't make Agatha Christie or her
millions of readers murderers, does it ?

Yet given Agatha Christie's interest in murder, same as that of her readers
it's hard not to imagine that she, like her readers must have fantasised
about murdering someone, an objectionable relative or neighbour perhaps,
at some point and how they would go about it, so as not to get caught
as the murderers always did in her books.

But that doesn't make them murderers does it ? Just fantasists.

And yes I am well aware of the fact that sometimes the Law doesn't
appear to recognise this distinction; which probably stems from the
fact that it's often easier for the police to produce evidence from
self incriminating fantasists and thus gain convictions, than it is
from actual perpetrators. Railings, chain, blah, blah, blah.

He's right.

From stuff like Kinsey.

That simply doesn't make sense.

Fraid so.

And please don't say that they wrote about this in letters or diaries.

Some did.

Because that makes them "fantasists" not "perverts".

Nope.

Fantasists are people who write or talk about things without any intention
of ever actually doing them. For whatever reason.*

Even sillier than you usually manage, and that’s saying something.

Agatha Christie wrote around 80 books about murder, which millions of her
readers lapped up. But that doesn't make Agatha Christie or her millions
of readers murderers, does it ?

Corse not, but that’s an entirely separate matter to how many perverts
there are that never actually do their perversion for whatever reason

Yet given Agatha Christie's interest in murder, same as that of her
readers it's hard not to imagine that she, like her readers must have
fantasised about murdering someone,

In their case its more likely they fantasised about working out who the
murderer was

an objectionable relative or neighbour perhaps,

Or some unspeakable arsehole like Adolf, Idi Amin or just a serial murderer.

at some point and how they would go about it, so as not to get caught as
the murderers always did in her books.

Like hell they did.

But that doesn't make them murderers does it ? Just fantasists.

Irrelevant to how many perverts actually do any perverted acts.

And yes I am well aware of the fact that sometimes the Law doesn't
appear to recognise this distinction; which probably stems from the

self incriminating fantasists and thus gain convictions, than it is

Wonder how many times you've heard someone say of a girl (or boy) that
they can't wait for them 'to be old enough'. Which suggests that person is
already seeing them as a sexual object. But because of the law, knows they
are too young legally. Does that make them a pervert?

To repeat "Fantasists are people who write or talk about things without
any intention of ever actually doing them. For whatever reason."

In other words, the fact that people might fantasise about being perverts
as in your example, doesn't make them perverts. It makes them fantasists.

If they were actual perverts, to quote Mrs. Doyle, "they'd be doing the
business" not just talking about it.

Bill

Collins GEM English Dictionary
pervert v. use or alter for a wrong purpose; lead into abnormal (sexual)
behaviour. ˜n. person who practises sexual perversion. ˜perversion n.
sexual act or desire considered abnormal; act of perverting.

You are confusing pervert with perversion.
