![]() I've not been feeling too good and for a few days I've vegetated in front of the TV watching mainly daytime crap. There are a number of American reality shows concerning pawn shops, abandoned storage lock-up auctions, pickers (antique dealers cold calling to cherry pick the more valuable items), the transport of items across country by the lowest bidder and the restoration of American junk to make an antique look new. What has been noticeable is that the SAME very rare and valuable items have turned up on more than one of these programs, either found in a locker full of worthless junk or supposedly owned by someone claiming ownership for 10s of years. For one of these items there were at least 2, and maybe 3, different people claiming long term ownership. Furthermore, the people/dealers featured in these programs all seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of these rare object on first seeing them. -- mailto : news {at} admac {dot} myzen {dot} co {dot} uk |

Its like the other popular crap, the ghost chasers etc, they are fake. No need to mess with words here. I'm waiting for the brave company who puts out a program based on people committing suicide. Well you are Mr Cheerful or do you want to be on TV? -- Adam |

Perhaps the same as adverts for classic cars which are well past their best. Almost always described as a barn find. Even when they've been rotting away in an aged parent's garage. And inventing an interesting history for them seem to be a national pastime. -- *Many people quit looking for work when they find a job * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

There is that massive pawnbrokers in Las Vegas run by the Grant Mitchell look-alike bloke and they frequently call in experts on all sorts of abstruse and obscure memorabilia who apparently live only a few minutes' drive away from the place, none of whom charge a single cent for their appraisals! -- This message may be freely reproduced without limit or charge only via the Usenet protocol. It's those antique guns they find and want to know if they still work so they go and fire them, sounds a bit dangerous if they are likely to explode, they just take them to a field and try them out. |
