plot two kids in a city find a circular saucer like thing...the door opens
they go in.....the saucer has seating under the windows all around the
inside with storage underneath ....... the thing then takes them to the
future where they are offered cigarettes because the people they meet
thought this was what was done back in the time where they came from but
were told kids didn't smoke back then.....they then got about by just using
any parked flying car they choose to use no cost no ownership
required...then the idyllic future got a bit sinister can't remember what
happened then...a long shot but anybody remember this book ????

Doesn't sound quite right but Bleep & Booster might be a candidate

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleep_and_Booster

If you can remember the names of any characters or places in it then
Google will probably find it for you.

A line of dialogue or a description? It's amazing how these things
stick. For reasons that anybody who is or ever has been a parent will
understand, I can still recite most of "George the Old Fashioned Fire
Engine, was Bobby Brewster's pride and joy...."

Are you sitting comfortably? Shall I go on?

Does not ring any bells and i read a lot of sci fi when I was young. How
long ago are we talking here, as it may have been written later on when I
outgrew the sillier stuff.

The one that haunted me was a crash landing on earth of a venus probe
carrying stuff scooped from the atmosphere of that planet, and unfortunately
a fungus that grew out of control on anything was released and a ship manned
was readied to go and find the natural predator that would keep it under
control. Lots of problems associated with hasty preparations of a mission
and coming back ran out of fuel and had to be grabbed by another craft after
re entry etc. The fungus growing on people gave me nightmares for weeks!

I still have a few Robertson's Golly badges somewhere. To me, they were

I have a Robertson's china Golly drummer. I may have had more, but Mother was a bit clumsy with china.

And what sort of publishing date range? I don't recall any plot like you
describe in any of the Eagle annuals 1950 onwards. Can you remember
anything at all about the book - dust jacket, illustrations?

Have you thought of going to the nearest central public library and asking
the person who's in charge of the children's section?

I'm trying to find a children's sci fi book I read in the
60's from the plot is there any easy way to do this ? ......

It can sometimes be surprising what google
comes up with if your googlefoo is any good.

rec.arts.sf.written will almost certainly tell you if there
is anything even vaguely unique about the plot.

Does not ring any bells and i read a lot of sci fi when I was young. How
long ago are we talking here, as it may have been written later on when
I
outgrew the sillier stuff.

must have been very early 60's .....

The one that haunted me was a crash landing on earth of a venus probe
carrying stuff scooped from the atmosphere of that planet, and
unfortunately a fungus that grew out of control on anything was released
and a ship manned was readied to go and find the natural predator that
would keep it under control. Lots of problems associated with hasty
preparations of a mission and coming back ran out of fuel and had to be
grabbed by another craft after re entry etc. The fungus growing on
people
gave me nightmares for weeks!
Brian

sounds good

The only SF that gave me bad dreams was a short story on the Beeb called
'Dune Roller'

Not bad dreams, but one thing that sticks in my mind is the scene in
a hopeless movie where people living in a house out in the fields where
the yanks had those massive great underground silos with ICBMs in them,
look out the window at the noise, see the whole lot of them all being
launched at once, knowing that in half an hour the entire world would
come to an end.

Should work better with books and
https://books.google.com.au/advanced_book_search?hl=en

That searches the actual books, tho I dunno if a kids' sf book would have
been scanned.
