Not everyone. At least some of those who examine such schemes
conclude
that final salary pension schemes favour senior people over "the
workers".

My idea of a decent pension is one which allows roughly the same
lifestyle
as when working. So one based on what you earned when working
tends to do
that.
But lumbers the operation with a massive cost of all those pensions
for those that havent worked for that operation for decades.

Not if its been done correctly.
Most uk ones were based on investing so there was a big fund that
could cover the costs even if the company went bust.
It was these funds that Brown raided and created the pensions crisis.

The government schemes tended not to invest and are paid from taxes
and/or the contributions of current workers.


The NI pension fund was invested in gilts -but then Brown raided that too.

You do understand that gilts are just loans to the government so just
another tax fund.
But they pay interest and can be traded but hen Brown moved it into an
Account with the Commissioner for the reduction of the National Debt
i.e. stole it.
