What is the best paint for rendered exterior masonry?

Jonstone's Pliolite masonry is good IME (although you can't wash brushes
out in water)

Jonstone's Pliolite masonry is good IME (although you can't wash brushes
out in water)


I'll second Johnstone's Stormshield Pliolite but (a) be prepared for a
premium price and (b) be warned it's designed dry fast even in the
winter so it can't be used at all in really hot weather, or on a surface
that has been in the sun and become hot.

I'd expect it to be more liable to cause freeze-thaw spall in a damp wall than lime, since cement is less able to evaporate damp.

Never had ready mixed Snowcem, it was always a powder in tubs that had to
be hydrated. It may well have come in different colours but we only ever
used white.

The *proper* Snowcem is/was lime based. I don't know about the modern
version sold by Northern Paints but the question can be asked. At least
it still comes as a powder.
