Not many of the age you are talking would be able to afford the overheads let alone much else.
A friend of mine after leaving teaching went self employed as a gardener, it wipped out all his savings, he had to buy a van and insure it, buy gardeninjg tools & PPE and get insurance, this is NOT the sort of thing someone leaving school has at their finger tips , some might not even be able to drive.
You can't take a lawnmover on a bus or expect to hire an uber car.

Even if you want to be a dustman you can;t go self employed what school leaver could afford a dustcart on day 1.

Congratulations on working out that not all school leavers can start up in all businesses. Now go back to sleep.

This is where apprenterships are best suitable, with practice and when you know what you're doing you can then go into buseniss yourself, but as it's difficut to get loans for such things you do need to save to start your own businiess.

that is NOT what school education is for

it's for whatever we as a society choose it to be for. Making people employable would seem a rather obvious thing we should teach.

So what subject is that in the school ciriculum you've no idea have you.
