Default Alarm Reset

On the original alarm at our last house I observed the engineer disabling the tamper in order to service the main box and that simply involved pressing all the non-numerical buttons on the keypad across the bottom and up the right hand side and it did not even require our key code. How universal that is I don't know but to change/reset the keycode still required knowing the present code, though I suspect gaining access to the PCB there might have been some means of doing a factory reset.

You need to obtain the Engineering Guide, or Installation manual for
whatever alarm you have.

Bit late now but the vendor should have told you when you bought it.

Knowing the maker and model number would help a lot. Or a photo.

Most decent alarms will continue to work normally over a modest power
cut and return to normal operation when power resumes. An alarm isn't
much cop if you can disable it by interrupting the mains.

The time when you notice that you don't have the engineering code is
when you want to decorate and tamper with the PIR sensors.

Alarms conforming to British Standards have required the user code
in addition to the engineering code for decades now to go into
engineering mode, so that an engineer cannot access/disable it
without the user's permission.

So how does the engineer give the user a new code when the user has
forgotten it?
You can go into engineering mode on the alarm systems I fitted without
the user code.
You cannot turn the alarm off using the engineer code, it will go off if
set and it will take a while before you can reset it. I assume this is
to stop the engineer breaking in.

I would have thought you would need to do a factory reset.
This would need you to get instructions for bellbox and panel.
After the reset you would have to reset the various zone functions.
