Yeah - that's not new (sadly) - very common in South American countries.

A bargain at only £21 on Ebay (incl postage). BUT... I find that at
9/10KW my electric shower provides just about an adequate heat to flow
rate during the winter months. The suicide shower provides only 5.5KW
maximum. This is a Chinese quoted power figure that is often twice the
standard used by the rest of the western world.

I once stayed in a 4 star hotel in Cornwall where I thought it better to
have a full wash with a flannel using the sink rather than risk the
electric shower. You don't need the suicide shower fitting to be wary!

The worst electrical/(dangerous) wiring I have seen was in a 1200 room
'motel' St Louise USA. Metal light switches with bare live wires coming
out of the wall a couple of inches above the socket.
The motel also had miles of synthetic carpet where just walking to your
room charged you up so much that you got a 1/4 inch spark every time you
attempted to touch the metal door Knob.

A friend on a cycling holiday in some far flung place came back
with a few pictures like that. On a cycling holiday in hot
countries, you really do need to use a shower. Howvever, he said
he just couldn't bring himself to stick more than one arm or one
leg under it at once, even though he knew full well how
irrational that was.

I have a travel iron that works on the same 'electrode boiler'
principle. Even comes with advice to use a bit of salt to increase the
water conductivity for more steam. Works well on 240V.

We should really bin it.

Very common in Brazil, Bolivia and surrounding countries.

I have stayed in a hospedaje?? where one of these was fitted
over the toilet (another common South American occurence),
and not only was is designed for a typical South American
(quite short), the power connectors were bare wires and just
twisted together.
