My concrete flagged patio is looking a bit grotty even though it gets loads
of sunlight. I jet washed it using washing up liquid, but it is still not
brilliant.
I jet wash it every year.
It has been down for about 5 years and always looked fine up to now.
Does anybody know if patio cleaner really works?

I thought "concrete flag"s were a chav thing, only laid by council
tenant on account of its cost?

Concrete flags do change and become dull, why no reputable home owner
would ever use them.

Agreed. That and gravel. Just ends up all over the lawn/flowerbed/etc. My drive is monoblocked.

I install block paving and slabs.

Block paving is cheaper than slabs.

50mm normal block paving, brindle with black border costs approx £10 per sq
metre to buy.
(Jewsons, but most BM's are doing them for around £12)

2X2 grey concrete utility flags are £16 per metre to buy
http://snipurl.com/2akfe3n

For driving purposes, the foundations are the same

So when you use the term 'plain and cheap', you must be referring to block
paving?

Even perfect slabs don't look nice. They're grey and large. The smaller and more colourful the pieces, the better it looks, which is why a mosaic floor like the Romans used is very nice.

Make a home brew cleaner - much stronger and does a really good job.

Sodium Hypochlorite (14%)

Lauryl Dimethylamine Oxide - (AKA Amine Oxide)

A suitable mix is 3L Hypo
9L water
300ml Amine

suds it up in a bucket.
With a hose wet the patio, apply solution with a soft nylon sweeping
brush (type used to wash caravans) work it in and leave ... keep it wet
with more solution ... don't let it dry.

After 5 mins you will see all algae & staining lifting off .... go over
with brush agitating it .... then after about 20min rinse off.

No. Block Paviors.

I install block paving and slabs.

Block paving is cheaper than slabs.

I just checked Beatson's prices (similar to Jewsons) and the cost is
about
the same.

So you have to be really stupid to get tacky plain concrete slabs when
you
can have monoblock for the same price.

50mm normal block paving, brindle with black border costs approx £10
per
sq
metre to buy.
(Jewsons, but most BM's are doing them for around £12)

2X2 grey concrete utility flags are £16 per metre to buy
http://snipurl.com/2akfe3n

For driving purposes, the foundations are the same

So when you use the term 'plain and cheap', you must be referring to
block
paving?

Look at the photos I linked to and tell me in all honesty you prefer the
big grey squares.

Never seen anything like that here. Makes a lot more sense to pour a
concrete slab instead.

Even plainer.

Works much better than the fancy **** you posted photos of.

That bog standard herringbone pattern is the one the local councils are
putting on tenants drives around here.

So why don't you lot pour a concrete slab like we do ?

Because it looks ****.

Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess, Will you marry me? The Princess said; No!!! So the Prince lived happily ever after and rode Harley Davidson motorcycles and banged skinny long-legged big-titted broads and hunted and fished and raced cars and went to naked bars and dated women half his age and drank whiskey, beer and Captain Morgan and never heard bitching and never paid child support or alimony and banged cheerleaders and kept his house and guns and ate spam and potato chips and beans and blew enormous farts and never got cheated on while he was at work and all his friends and family thought he was freak'in cool as hell and he had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up.
The end.

Stunning. Really nice.

Too fancy for my taste.

I'm not so sure about the barbecue pergola kitchen-bar structure.

Yeah, particularly the little pillars at the
bottom of the timber poles, looks silly IMO.

I'm not even sure if the flags are actually concrete, they are
very white and are not the same as the ones on footpaths.

That's a bit better.

I had those crappy "monoblocks" on the drive at my last house.
I fought the weeds for 18 years.

Bleach kills weeds stone dead. And jetwash.

I've seen a photo of your weed infested ******** drive Hucker.

I'm too lazy/busy to clean it often.

Yeah, that's the big advantage of poured concrete, no maintenance required
at all.
