Default Totally OT; how to find if someone is deceased

I have lost touch with some very long term friends, who are in or
approaching their 80s. I need to go back about 5 years, I have not got
their current addresses, only old ones and their names. Is there a
reasonably easy way to find if they are still alive?
TIA
