I don't disagree with your basic point, but you are rather showing your age here (or more specifically lack of it). When *I* was growing up in the 1950s and 60s, summers were almost invariably miserable; the good summers of 1970 and 1972 were a revelation. But I well remember my grandparents generation also complaining about the awful summers at the time: they remembered the Edwardian "long hot summers" of their childhood. As you say, "weather" will continue. This is one reason that "Climate" has a formal definition. I *do* have something of a view on global warming. Whilst the real specialists understand the variability perfectly well, you get far too many journalists and lesser scientists exclaiming with glee over the hottest (stormiest, wettest, or whatever) period "since records began", neglecting to mention that records began during the little ice age. It's also why the leaked Sussex emails included the line "We need to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period". I actually don't believe that this was an inappropriate phrase to use in private correspondance. I don't think they were suggesting that they should work to massage the data to conceal this, I think it was an honest expression of scientific doubt; they recognised very well that this fluctuation weakened any argument that there was a simple monotonic variation of temperature associated with increasingly industrial activity in European countries dating back to the Renaissance. |

You are the retard I'm afraid. Global warming causes climate change, but not every place on the planet gets a climate change which results in hotter weather. When the Jet Stream and the Gulf Stream change their route there are winners and losers in the local temperature stakes. The UK is especially vulnerable to whether or not we are north or south of the dividing line which these streams define - and moving the line by globally insignificant amounts like a few hundred miles has a *huge* effect on our weather. -- Roland Perry |

I haven't bothered reading the rest of this thread because this argument has taken place several dozen times in *this* group alone. However I must make this small point: "Global warming" does not mean, and has never meant, that winters will be warm, or summers hot. They changed the name when they realised it might not do that. Backtracking, typical of religious morons. Now it's called "change", any change can be attributed to it. And it's guaranteed the climate will change, that's what a climate does. So whatever happens, they can say they were right, and we can continue wasting money on green ****e. It means winters will be more miserable (wetter) and so will summers (more unsettled) .... than what we knew as little kids (when -- obviously -- summers were always glorious, and we used to sledge every day in in winter). They think that. For now. Until they change their minds again. Personally I have no view on global warming. I think that "weather" will continue as it always has done. Look out the window in the morning, only then will you know what the weather will be. That wont tell you what the weather will be in plenty of places either. Our forecasts are now surprisingly reliable, the max temp predicted is usually accurate to within 1 degree, the min not quite so reliable. Rainfall prediction not that accurate but they normally do get it right on whether it will rain at all or not. Weather doesn't scare me. I don't need to know what it's going to do. -- A waiter brings the customer the steak he ordered with his thumb over the meat. "Are you crazy?" yelled the customer, "with your hand on my steak?" What is the point of pointing out my name Steven Pounder? Shall I post your wife's name and your home address? History is not his friend. He has well known mental health issues. No I don't, not that there is even such a thing as mental health. Corse there is. What people call "mental health problems" are just stupid folk. Not when they murder their little kid because it's the devil etc. That's stupidity. I'm 64 VERY soon and can remember hot summers and bloody freezing winters. Now it seems to be cooler summers and milder winters. And in a few more decades it'll be something different again. Probably. We don't know what, We can make some educated guesses. We shouldn't spend billions on guesses. and we don't care, Some do, even in here. There's always some weirdos about, best to ignore them like the religious nuts. and nothing we do will alter it. That is a lie. No it isn't. The climate has always changed long before man became "civilised". BUT, this is all a blink in the eye of the world and as I'll be dead in round about 20 years I don't give a flying **** what happens. HA! That is one of the more sensible things you've said. Not if there is a real effect. Corse whether that effect is likely to be a serious problem is a separate matter entirely. It is clear that we have been able to handle much more dramatic climate change like the ice ages, Precisely, we're worrying about a tiny little thing. and it is quite possible that climate change will be for the better in places like that soggy little frigid island. Even you lot managed to operate quite effectively in places like India and the darkest africa which were quite different climate wise to that soggy little frigid island.
