Default I wonder if I could get free digs at this rewire?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33250274

I have often stayed on site when working in empty homes:-)

Nice place, I've worked there, it certainly is in need of a revamp
though.

Adam,
out of interest, as it may be happening shortly, very roughly what
should I be looking to pay for a total rewire, all after the meter, for
a 3 bed detached house with solid downstairs floors? It would be just
about empty and no worries about decor as it will be having a lot of
walls skimmed over later.

If it makes any difference it is out in the countryside in Cheshire and
has a very good pub with an excellent restaurant within staggering
distance.

2K for a basic starting price with a one man band - depends on the spec.

Probably 2.5K with a bigger firm.

Perhaps you could moonlight on this job while you're there?

There will be a few oddities, but nothing serious, like all RCBOs and
not MCBs :-) . That gives me a good starting point, thanks.

How long do you reckon the job will take, then?

Just had a look at that, and the bit about 'bits kee falling off Buckingham
Palace" put me in mind of a visit to Lisbon last week. We went he
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jer%C3%B3nimos_Monastery
and I was struck by the number of people just sitting sunningthemselves on
the steps around the big archway to the right, directly underneath a 100-
foot-hight facade crammed with crumbly gargoyles and carvings. Nobody
giving a moment's thought that it mught not be a particularly safe place to
loiter!

+1 for an all RCBO consumer unit..... I give MCBs and RCDs a wide
berth now...... :-)

Bit of a hike to a decent boozer, though. ;-)

There used to be a free pub for the staff.

I presume the old wiring was done in conduit. How reusable that is, who knows

Limited, I'd say, since so much will be altered/added.

And the conduit may be wood or rusting steel. Maybe they need someone that can do a specialist job using the existing system - otherwise a lot of historic & palacial decor may be badly damaged.
