My house was built with a hall floor laid with red mahogany type hardwood. I would like to resurrect this floor. Unfortunately the floor does not extend far enough into the doorways and the join with the ordinary pine floorboards are visible when the doors are shut. I think that there was originally threshold strips about 80mm wide covering these joins. They were probably removed and discarded when carpet was fitted. The architraves are all cut at the bottom to accommodate a strip of wood.

I have been unable to source suitable hardwood strips either wide enough =80mm or thin enough 15mm. Plenty of oak about but not mahogany or any of the other mahogany type hardwoods.

Does anyone know of a source? I have visited all my local timber yard without success.

I'm not surprised really.

They don't stock timber of this size, you'll have to get it cut to that
size, which will inevitably mean purchasing a much larger piece and being
left with a lot of scrap.

Mahogany window frames are approx 80mm thick and a piece of one of those
would cut up nicely if you have access to a decent bench saw, my advice
would be to ask around local window fitters who specialise in upvc fitting -
they throw mountains of mahogany away regularly, I burn lots of it on my
woodburning stove

Wood stain is the answer or coloured varnish.
Even if you get mahogany it is unlikely to match.
There are dozens of very similar tropical hardwoods, many no longer
available.

Thans for your replies the model supplies suggestion from the Natural Philosopher seems to be a likely source.
