The XYL spotted this being advertised (She does far too much
commercial TV viewing IMHO) and decided she could do with a decent
carpet cleaning machine for the bedroom carpet (ill chosen colour imho
to begin with - you just don't argue with your XYL on matters like
this if you value your sanity).

TJ Hughes have it on sale at the moment for £69.99, supposedly 60
quid cheaper than the rrp £129.99 (seemingly the manufacturers are
equally as shameless as the retail trade in using 99 pence pricing
suffixes - just who do they think they're kidding? AFAIC, it's a
bloody minded insult to this shopper's intelligence).

Before rushing out to 'snap one up before they're all gone', I
thought I'd seek some advice and or opinions from the rather
knowledgable (and oft opinionated) members of this NG.

For a penny shy of 70 quid, I don't expect anything fantastically
good, just something that at least lives up to its promise (basically,
dealing with the type of dirt that can't simply be vacuumed out of the
carpet fibres with a Dyson DC07 or similar).

TJs also have the Vax Rapide Supreme Washer VRS17W on special offer
at £89.99 claiming a whopping 160 quid saving on the rrp £249.99.
Would spending the extra 20 quid be a better investment or are there
better alternatives to the Vax range of carpet cleaners?
