Is it only me who considers the Games to be a huge waste of money, another
**** up waiting to happen and that the money could have been better spent on
the NHS?
I live in the north and will not see a penny of where my money has been
spent.

I am bored with it already. And it hasn't even started.

Or has it? Oh, don't tell me. I couldn't care less.

I actually went to see the torch pass, the wife decided that as it will
never happen again we may as well see what the fuss was about.
I was underwhelmed as I expect the 30 or so other people standing there
watching.
The BBC reported thousands turned out so I guess they were somewhere else.

Bloody joke. In Leyton nobody could pick their kids up from school by
car. Had they waited a week, the schools would have broken up.

I think they were all in Huddersfield. The police estimate for
attendance was about 40,000 so based on their figures from demos I
guess that makes it about two million or so.

You should worry. Stratford is between me and London. People who live in
the London area are going to have a nightmare with closed lanes, closed
roads, public transport even more overloaded than usual etc.
Those living in the area which was supposed to be improved seem to have
been most put out.

I'm still wondering if there are going to be confused foreign tourists in

Quite likely - and heaven help anyone who doesn't understand written and
spoken English at a fluent standard. The signs are user hostile.

OK. They are bright shocking pink but they are not language independent!

Most attempts at language independent signs usually ensure that people
of all languages fail to understand them equally.

When it happened in Sydney Australia, every one whinged and moaned
before the event but in reality when it started the traffic flowed
better than ever, the buses and trains flowed faultlessly.

Only because hordes chose not to bother with normal movements and work etc.

It was also deliberately timed so that schools were out etc.

Started today wouldn't let us on leyton station platform as it was too busy, had to get the bus. So 3 buses and 1:35mins from E10 to E1 .
5.3 miles, Google estimate by car 13-15mins .

And it is indirectly getting even more of our money than may initially be
obvious. Atos is a sponsor, sorry - partner, for the Olympics &
Paralympics. But they get a huge wodge of money from the DWP for doing
medical assessments on DLA claimants - which these days seem to have
extraordinarily high levels of successful appeals.

TBH I don't think that's the fault of the people doing the assessments.
It's the fault of the people who wrote the script that they follow, which is
probably not Atos.

There may indeed be some truth to what you say. But a fair part of the
blame is being apportioned by people at Lima.

"It is currently against the law to use anyone other than a doctor
approved by the Secretary of State to carry out incapacity benefit
medicals. However, the DWP has agreed to allow ATOS to use 'other
Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) such as nurses' to carry out examinations
'in other benefit areas - provided that they follow appropriate EBM
[Evidence Based Medicine] protocols and are supported by LiMA'. LiMA
(Logic integrated Medical Assessment) is the software developed by Atos
primarily to carry out incapacity for work medicals."

So "the script" is provided by Atos.

And I'd guess that the contract included some sort of targets for
reducing the number of claimants

I'd suggest that probably it not only had that, but also one for reducing

You mean a desire to be the best

watching the best compete to see who is the best of the best?

People need heroes

Why they should choose corporate sponsors who represent the total
opposite of the olympic ideal, why half the roads in london should
close, why the only beer allowed on site isn't even british etc

Thats where I have a problem
