External Door Lock Repair
I need to replace the lock on my backdoor as the catch has broken. The lock is one with a eurocylinder & has rods (shootbolts?) going to the top & bottom of the door.
I am able to remove the cylinder & loosen the lock but cannot figure out how to remove the shootbolts so that I can remove the lock from the door. Does anyone know how these are connected to the back of the lock & how to remove them? |

The Eurolocks that I have dealt with have a long bolt coming from the edge of the door to hold the lock in place. You shouldn't hvae to remove the "shoot bolts". -- From KT24 Using a RISC OS computer running v5.18 |

I can't give you any names for the lock as there is nothing on the front face. I presume the name will be on the side but as I can't pull it out very far I can't see. |

Sorry if the question is a bit unclear. It's the actual sash lock I need to replace. I can remove the handles, front face& eurocylinder but the lock is attached to the shootbolts somehow. Until I can figure out how to detach these from the lock I can't remove it from the door. I've never come across one where the euro cylinder was attached to anything. They usually go through a hole in a plate IYSWIM which operates the bolts. There will a long machine screw in the door edge at the same level as the euro cylinder. Remove that, then put the key & turn it slightly & it should pull out. I can't give you any names for the lock as there is nothing on the front face. I presume the name will be on the side but as I can't pull it out very far I can't see. -- Dave - The Medway Handyman www.medwayhandyman.co.uk |
