"According to the study, which was reported on Xinhua, the wall is
21,196.18km (13,170.6956 miles) long, rather than an estimate of
8,850km given in a 2009 study."

"Work started on the Great Wall in 500BC to protect China's northern
border"

No finishing date, the lazy feckers.

Seems a very big discrepancy between the estimate and new length. I
suspect they are adding up all the various bits of of The Great Wall
many of which run parallel with each other. The Great Wall is not
just a single wall from start to finish. Bear in mind that London to
Aukland is only 11,300 odd miles...

Well the section at Mutianyu had been heavyly rebuilt when I visited
it in early '93. I bet the new sections they are opening will also
have been rebuilt.

I'm impressed by their accuracy - to the nearest 10 cm! ;-)
