Default Fridge/Freezer

Samsung RS20 side by side model about 7 years old recently started
dripping water on the floor and the compressor was running almost
continuously and it was frozen up around the bottom of the freezer
apartment.

Called the appointed Samsung service agents and they fitted a new
sensor that they said controlled the heater that did the de-icing.
After that, the water dripping stopped but the compressor continues to
run 85%-90% of the time.

It maintains the temperatures OK at -18 and +5 for the respective
apartments.

Can anyone offer a diagnosis and recommended course of action.

Thanks

Yvonne

Prime suspects when a compressor runs most of the time while temp is
correct are loss of refrigerant gas and insulation failure. Insulation
normally fails on the bottom, you'd need to tip it over to see if its
waterlogged underneath. If it is, the bottom insulation pad can be
removed and the area restuffed, preferably as far as possible using
PIR foam, and ensuring there are no gaps anywhere.

Gas loss is basically unrecoverable. There are bodges, but they don't
last long term. If it is gas loss, it'll soon get worse, run all the
time and fail to keep temperature.

Check that the doors are closing correctly and don't get paranoid about the
compressor running a lot. It may not be.
Try putting your hand on the compressor. If it is really hot, then oh dear!
Don't buy another frost free.
