So is that plate capacity, actual output or juts a number dreamed up by
the renewables lobby then, and 10% of what exactly? a single nuclear
power station?

"During the first half of 2011, the share of renewable energy sources used
by Germans in their total energy mix grew to one-fifth"

You may think that the claim is exaggerated, but it is anything but unclear
(IMHO),.

Methinks that you didn't read the article before posting

I read it subesquently and more of it is hydro and biofuel than is wind
or PV.

and of course they pay twice what we do for electricity, and their
carbon footprint per MW is in fact higher even BEFORE they shut the
nukes down.

They will be, with the new lignite stations they are building one of the
dirtiest nations in terms of electrtcal carbon footprint in europe.

Wind and PV won't make a blind bit of difference except to their
economy, which will partially collapse.

Oh ****, are they bringing back braunkohl? Can this stuff be burned
clean - the Commies never managed it in East Germany? Seems there's a
lot of it about though.

no. but who gives a ****? As long as they

(a) placate the greens with no nukes
(b) placate the greens with nameplate targets on renewables

who gives a **** if they have a bigger carbon footprint? its not about
reducing emissions anymore its about meeting renewable targets and
keeping jobs in Siemens.

And of course the Frogs are building a fat pipe to take nuke power to
them anyway.

for sheer double think and utter hypocrisy the German greens are
Europe's top doggie doos.

Harry comes close, but it's no contest really.

I did. It says 20% of total energy mix - but other sources indicate to
me it is more likely to be 20% of total _electricity_.

So excludes any direct use of fossil fuels in industry or transport.
