Charging mobile phone
I have been having problems charging my phone for a few days. I suspect the
socket in the phone. 2 different charges wont charge it. I had to buy a new phone today as it gave up but assuming it isn't the battery how can I charge the battery so I can get the data off of the phone? Kevin |

Depends on the phone, but some have separate charger and USB sockets. You can try charging it from USB if the charger socket doesn't work. If that helps, buy a USB charger. Theo |

Take it to your local mobile repair shop and get them to pull the data to a stick for you. |

If it's a common phone, there is a good chance they might have battery to fit it lieing about., Thee same battery gets used in lots of different models -- Chris French |

I bought another one so I had the same charger but this one has a different battery. Sorry, haven't had a Samsung in a while so no recent experience but just in case, the toothbrush and alcohol trick wouldn't be a bad idea but won't help if it's a dodgy internal joint rather than a dirty external connection. On the Sony Ericssons, apparently clean looking gold contacts will not make a good charging contact and require occasional cleaning. The contact list is on the phone hence my need to get it to wor again Yep, totally understand. As another has suggested, a local unbranded phone repair/spares shop may be your best bet, they will likely have fully charged batts or other means of applying power and removing your contacts. I have a tame one near me who is an absolute star but your experience may vary, worth dropping in to chat face to face. In your place I'd charge the battery on the bench but I understand that is not for everyone. -- fred FIVE TV's superbright logo - not the DOG's, it's ******** |

Maybe it needs a new battery; they are pretty cheap on eBay or Amazon now. I'd give the battery contacts a spray with Contact Cleaner, costs 2 or 3 pounds at Maplins. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland |

If it were me I'd dismantle the phone, remove the broken socket, and solder some trailing wires on instead which I could connect to the charger - it all only needs to run for long enough to charge and get the data off, so it doesn't really need to go back together again afterwards. That's assuming that it is the socket in the first place, and not some other fault. cheers Jules |
