Photocell lights
Are photocell lights or sockets -
that turn the lamp off during daylight - still available? I've been looking around for one, but haven't had any luck. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland |

For outdoors I have all my lights running through one of the type of photo switches they use in street lights, and it has not given any trouble in a number of years use. (The kind of switch that is just a small block moulding did not last very long at all, and left even golf ball lamps flicking on and off, so steer clear of them, if you are looking at controlling your outdoor lights.) Bayonet plug at the top, bayonet socket at the bottom, works with a CFL lamp and has been fine since I got it, switching on at dusk and off at daybreak. Stephen |

Many positive results. rusty |

I knew 2 electrical stores that used to sell them, but both of them have been victims of the financial earthquake. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland |

I have one that controls the lights round the farm yard. They turn on at about 3pm and off at just past midnight by timer, with an overriding phocell that prevents them coming on when light, thus meaning the 'on' time doesn't need changing as the season progresses.
