option-2 works here.

That displays as a universal currency symbol here, not a euro symbol.

AltGr, then 'o', then 'x'.

Windows users need not apply I suspect, VT220 keyboard anyone?

Not convinced, it *does* show as a euro now you've quoted it, but in
Tim's original there was no characterset or encoding specified, so
leaving each client to guess how to interpret the 8bit data ...

That's innaresting. This is MT-NewsWatcher 3.5.3b3. I thought I'd set it
to send posts as UTF-8 but perhaps I need to send an additional header
to make that plain.

Hmmmmfurtle, furtle does this help ?

The currency symbols that are quoted from the original message have now
become pairs of hooks '¬' and a-circumflexes '', so I suspect it's now
been converted to UTF8 at some point, but it still doesn't have any
headers to indicate that.

I think the problem originally arose because Macs (along with anything
else using character sets derived from Latin1) used 0xA4 as the
universal currency symbol '¤', then along came the euro '€' and Apple
squeezed it in as 0xA4 instead.

Yep, they work here.

As did the post that chunkyoldcortina replied to. Until he replied to it,
