Default Cordless jug kettle won't switch off

Hi,

I'm trying to fix a Breville cordless jug kettle, the auto switchoff
has stopped working.

I've had the base off and there's nothing visibly wrong - there's a
bimetal disc which is supposed to flip the lever up when it gets
heated by the steam via a duct from the top of the kettle. The disc
seems to do its job when heated with a hairdryer, and I couldn't find
any blockage in the ducts. See www.rblack01.plus.com/images/IMG_8285a.JPG

The only thing I can think of is the bimetal disc has 'aged' or
something and flips at too high a temperature - so I tried to find a
new one on the usual suspects espares, partmaster etc but no joy.
It's a Breville JK130, the part is a disc about 20mm in diameter.

I'm loath to chuck yet another jug kettle, they all seem to blow the
element after about 18 months but this one has been reliable up to
now. Any ideas? Alternatively if anyone has a dead kettle with a
disc which might fit, would they mind posting it to me for a few beer
tokens? Address in the headers works.

Thanks

R.

I've just had the switch of my Breville Lightning switch apart for the
2nd time (1st time to replace a contact, 2nd time to remove the molten
lump my new contact (made from bit of copper) had become!!) and seem to
have upset the same part[1]. It's funny because it's back in proper but
doesn't want to play - perhaps they lose their springiness with time.

No help, but it's irritating that one can't buy just the switches as
this is the first decent jug kettle that's had an element that's lasted
more than 18months[2].

[1] I presume the two are connected - I always switch it off before the
steam-stat kicks in so it might have been broken for a while.

[2] Of course the 12 year old, no frills, 7quid Argos cheapy that got
put away after 6 years hard labour and is now a backup soldiers on
regardless.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?
