Default Any ventilation needed?

Hi

Is there a requirement for any ventilation for a room with a sealed
balanced flue gas space heater in? Or can the room be airtight?

thanks, NT

No formal requirement, it defaults to any requirements laid out in the
installation instructions, mine (a Keston) requires ventilation.

Bollx, misread heater for bolier, if ventilation is required however it
will be in the installation instructions (missing?).

I would telephone baxi, but the whole idea of balanced flue is that
combustion air is drawn in from outside.

There is a need for trickle ventilation in windows for humans, but I
do not think you need a "gas vent, do not obstruct" 9"x6" grill
sleeved through a cavity wall as with say a 10kW input conventional
gas fire in class-1 chimney.

Balanced flue gas heaters are great for efficiency over conventional
gas fires - not as good as a condensing boiler, but a huge improvement
over the 32% outset DFE & 60% radiant outset in a chimney. Never
looked to see if they do a "flame effect" version - if they do I
suspect they are built-in & big.

I assumed that with a cast iron exchanger the efficiency would be
poor.

Not particularly big, if flame effect is the need. This one fits in a

10KW though.

Can it really be 90% with orange flames, or am I confusing flame
colour and efficiency?

That is beautiful. I'm thinking of a hall - the usual gas wall heaters
are pretty ugly. That would look superb, not impossible to "build it
in".

Most gas wall heaters are about 72-79% efficient, I think rinai (sp)?
are 89%. Not all have cast iron heat exchanges, I think one Baxi has
pressed-steel - you can buy them separately for about £54. Gas wall
heaters are better than storage heaters for "on demand".
