updating bathroom, need some advice!
just started on updating my bathroom. already removed most tiles,
except around the bath and shower. i know i need a new white suite, and new tiles. it was fully tiled before but i'm thinking of just tiling splashbacks and painting the rest (after having it skimmed). plastered said he'll do the whole bathroom for £90 including ceiling, its only small. here are some pics: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=11udc1x&s=4 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2vln1go&s=4 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2d7bw5d&s=4 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2llj049&s=4 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=fuo0o2&s=4 basically want it to look clean and fresh as cheap as poss. thinking of takeaway suite from a diy shop which seem to be £150-200. tiles probably neutral colour, dont want white really. walls paint a light colour. may replace rad with a towel one. already got a decent fan fitted. not sure what to do with the pipes behind the toilet and sink ??? and plastered said i could chisel the shower tubes into the wall as you can see in the pic they just hang across the wall. what i need is some advice on doing this myself, everything will stay in the same place so plumbing shouldnt be too difficult??? but will i need any special tools for removing the old things and fitting the new? could i do the tiling now and just leave the bottom , as these need to overlap the new bath? would really appreciate some tips and advice on how to do this, want it done quickly as i hate not having use of a bathroom!! |

Be sure to use silk rather than matt though. plastered said he'll do the whole bathroom for £90 including ceiling, its only small. here are some pics: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=11ud...pic=fuo0o2&s=4 basically want it to look clean and fresh as cheap as poss. thinking of takeaway suite from a diy shop which seem to be £150-200. tiles probably neutral colour, dont want white really. walls paint a light colour. may replace rad with a towel one. already got a decent fan fitted. not sure what to do with the pipes behind the toilet and sink ??? and plastered said i could chisel the shower tubes into the wall as you can see in the pic they just hang across the wall. If you paint them a suitable colour to match the woodwork, it usually looks fine. Or be brave and paint them a strong deep colour. Hiding them is the fashion, but it does cost and adds more work. People tend to turn their nose up at the painting idea, but having seen it done it really does look fine in practice. NT |

updating bathroom, need some advice!
thanks for those tips.
any ideas how i would go about removing the tiles behind the toilet and sink? how easy (or hard) is it to stop the watersupply and move the toilet /sink out of the way? i'd like the plasterer to do this area too then i can paint it along with the pipes to hopefully make it look nice and clean. |

updating bathroom, need some advice!
any ideas on order of work? i want to get this all done on my week off
next week. how do i get a new suite, for example wickes do a take away range, do they usually have them there ready and waiting? do they come with all fittings needed? if i am putting new tiles all around the bath where the old ones were then i can do this on the current surface without having it skimmed right? if the plasterer is skimming the rest of the room can i replace these tiles then he skim to the edge of the new tiles? also i really want the area behind the toilet and sink skimmed too, is there a way i can temporarily remove the sink and wc before the plasterer comes? i'm worried something will leak! i have a combi condensing boiler system with no storage tank. i can switch the main water off and / or the boiler (power switch), but thats all i know about it. |
