Default Southern Electric Contracting, BS7671 and Part P

Southern Electric Contracting apparently doesn't know the difference
between BS7671 and Part "P". And despite being NICEIC and ECA members,
they don't seem to know that it is these bodies which "approve"
contractors...

Taken from a letter offering a "Free visual house inspection"

"Electricity is a safe and convenient source of energy for heat, light
and power within the home, however, shoddy and unsupervised electrical
work may lead to significant harm from shock and fire. These risks can
be minimised by ensuring that any electrical work in the home is carried
out by an approved electrical installer, in accordance with the
Government's rules in the Building Regualtions BS 7671 Part 'P', which
will ensure your electrical installation is up to date.

"If you haven't had the electrical installation in your home checked in
recent years and you are the home owner living in a property that is
over 15 years old, take advantage of our FREE NO OBLIGATION VISUAL
WIRING INSPECTION."

I wouldn't mind, but this is Southern Electric Contracting - part of
Scottish & Southern Energy - one of the major players in electricity
generation, distribution and retailing, etc.

What was the reply when you contacted the company to point this out?

Nothing like a nice bit of FUD to bring in the punters.

You could always report them to the local paper as bogus callers
misrepresenting themselves as technically qualified ;-)
