Painting new plaster
Hopefully someone will be able to offer some advice in response to
this question: Google is unusually unhelpful. I've spent the last few days reinstating a fireplace in my front room and constructing a surround. The wall needed replastering either side, with a small strip above the mantelpiece. You can see a photo he http://img264.imageshack.us/my.php?i...69smallyl7.jpg I've never plastered before, and I've got no experience of painting over fresh plaster -- but I know that, with a freshly plastered wall, it has to be left until dry. What I can't find out is whether that also applies to small areas of plaster: does it still need to be left for a month or so? I've also seen that there are breathable emulsions available, but I can only find references to them being used over skimming -- not over a whole new layer of plaster. My plastering (Thistle Universal One Coat) is about an inch deep at its thickest. Can I use Dulux Supematt or similar? Will it fall off? Is the paint up to the same standards as normal emulsion? Any advice would be much appreciated: how long should I wait? Thanks, Jen -- |

The question is how much breathability, not if. Having said that, I wouldnt overworry in your case. NT |
