Replaced ours with a Miele SC645+ recently. Does a nice job of the
dishes, and is extreamly quiet (makes less noise than the fridge or the
boiler for example). SWMBO liked it because it has a third cutlery draw
at the top rather than the more usual basket.

Disagree...

We had a brand new Miele 2 years ago and it went wrong often from about 3 months old.
Water not heating, dishes not clean, all sorts of issues. O bloody pain when is about to start
cooking and one finds that the previous wash didnt work.

The area engineer came out about 10 times and then admitted he didnt know what was wrong and couldnt
fix it. Miele then offered to send a "product specialist" to look at it, but retracted this when
they disovered we live in cornwall. Too far for the poor chap :-)
When I complained Miele offered us our money back, saying there was nothing more they could do.

We have had a Whirlpool since then (admittedly the top-end one) and it has been faultless.

I wouldnt touch Miele again.

The message
from tony sayer contains these words:

Siemens and Bosch are often interchangeable, depending on which country
you're in. I've seen several Bosch machines badged as Siemens in France,
and vice versa.

We had one of those for about the 12 years prior to the Miele. Did the
job well enough as well, although not as quiet.

(I don't know if the new Whirlpool are as good as they once were (ours
was still from the Philips/Whirlpool badging era)).

We got a John Lewis - very satisfied and reasonable price. Think it is
AEG made.

MIele.

We've had very good results with ours.

Especially appealing is the extra cutlery tray in the top and the very
quiet operation and an exemplary service organisation should you ever
need it.

Bosch. It was a distress purchase (the old one broke) and was quite
cheap as it was a manager's special, due to a small scratch on one
side. It's been faultless and I now always consider Bosch for
whitegoods and power tools.

Our Bosch dishwasher is now pushing 20 years old. The rinse-aid things
broken, the doors a bit non springy, the inlet valve sticks occasionally the
kids slam stuff in and out and slam the door about but the damn thing goes
on and on year after year, washing the dishes well. Remarkable, really.

Bosch washing machine quite good (6-7 years old?) but I have replaced the
pump and the motor brushes - probably doing 8 washes a week though - they do
have a very good spares web site though and it's pretty good to work on.

Bosch cordless drill faultless

Sadly thta is of no use on a new purchase. I have an 20 yr old hotpoint
washing machine that has outlasted two newer models.

Is there a household appliance review website somewhere? Where a
repairman gives his opinion about various machines? I can't recall the
url of course! It says things like "this budget washer is good because
it uses the faultless T2674c control unit" or "this high-end washer has
an inherent fault in the door mechanism"
