Default Insulating Wooden Summer house

Hi,

I am looking to insulate my wooden summer house / log cabin to be able
to use it all year round for a kids playhouse. Presently the building
is completely uninsulated.

I am thinking of screwing some battens to the walls & ceiling, filling
the gaps with foam or glassfibre insulation and then attaching
plasterboard over the top. Would this cause any damp issues ?

What would provide the best insulating properties without me losing too
much internal space in the room ? As with everything I am on a budget,
and I am guessing that the foam insulation is more expensive ? The
building is about 19' x 12', so I am looking at quite a large area.

Thanks in advance,

Paul...

The easiest way is just to friction fit celotex/kingspan between the studs.
Not cheap but unlike glassfibre or rockwool won't be bothered by moisture.
There are a couple of Ebay outlets which appear to offer good value compared
with builders merchants.

Jablite and similar are much cheaper, although they don't have the same
insulation value. It doesn't suffer from being wet, either. He could use
50mm or 75mm, or a combination of thicknesses, and overboard inside with
something.

Use celotex or kingspan. I did something similar to my shed (but it was only
10' x 12'). Insulation was obtained from www.secondsandco.co.uk. The boards
are very easy to work with and have the best insulation u-Values for the
thickness.

Places like seconds and co are handy. Also note that there are plenty of
other brands of PIR foam than just celotex and kingspan - many of which
are very much cheaper. Ecotherm is usually about half to a third the price.

So how does "Ecotherm" compare physically, and in price,
to Kingspan? Jolly interesting.

Physically it looks and feels pretty much the same - foil either side,
foam in the middle. Pretty ridgid but cuts with a knife.

The local Jewsons wanted about £32/sheet for 8'x4' sheets of 50mm
celotex, I was getting ecotherm at £14/sheet for new, and £12/sheet for
seconds.
