Default shiny/matt patches on emulsion finish - how to get the 'mattest' finish

no spam here, thanks wrote:
I was reading a 'diy problem page' a while ago which described the
appearance of matt or shiny patches on an emulsioned wall. I didn't
have the problem at the time (!) so I didn't bookmark the answer! Now
I* have the problem, and need the answer!

I have a wall with a matt finish emulsion (sort of bland magnolia) which
has a couple of large 'more matt' patches. I know I 'touched up'
these patches, but I don't remember if it was a brush or a roller - and
what pile length (the whole wall had been rollered, and this is what has
made the difference.

The answer I saw explained how brushes vs.rollers vs. different pile
length rollers affected the mattness of the finish .... I want the
'more matt' finish which is quite noticeable (in contrast at least)
under artificial lighting.

Can anyone clear up which painting method is likely to give the
'mattest' finish?

Thansk!

It can also occur due to variations in the quality of the wall surface,
and its hard to eliminate it when that occurs.

If you want ultra matt, use a lime based paint such as distemper or
putty paint. These can be home made for peanuts.
