Default Adjustable Spanners

Hi All

Can you still get those adjustable spanners/wrenches that resemble the
letter 'F' rather than the letter 'Y' ?

Much bigger capacity and they are easier to get into some areas.

That's a Stillsons, I bet he means something like this :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=6240393357

Vintage tool section of Ebay is where you need to be. I've not seen a
modern version.

Cheers

Paul.

No!

Same princple as a 'Y' shaped adjustable with the wheel & worm screw, but
'F' shaped.

I think Footprint used to make them years ago.

I got one within the last few years but can't for the life of me remember
where. It's not got a brand name on it so no help there.

Much bigger capacity and they are easier to get into some areas.

Yup. Something like this?

I haven't seen any in the shops for years. I used to have a really good one,
which I broke while trying to undo a towbar nut on my car.

I often look for a replacement at car boot sales. I managed to get one, but
it's smaller than the one I broke. I'm still looking for a bigger one.

Stilson wrench (sometimes known as 'pipe wrench')

is the type of spanner you are on about.

You can still get them.

You make it sound like something new: I've been using one for at least 2
years (and bought a second a year or so ago). I get mine from our
excellent local everything-mongers, Drews in Reading, for a bit over £20
(with trade discount)

Well, they were new to me! Still I don't profess to know everything that
is available in the tool world..Anyway at just short of £16 each I
thought they were a good buy!!
